State of the Blog (2025 Retrospective and 2026 Resolutions)

Hey folks!

I haven't been writing here as much for the past several months, largely due to my concussion, and while I'm certainly doing a lot better than I was I'm still going to try to keep this short.

It's been a great year! Let's get into it.

2025 In Review

I did pretty well with all my 2025 resolutions!

  • Finish Stolen Fate and Strength of Thousands! 2 level 20 Pathfinder 2e campaigns wrapped up! They were a good time, and it's great to see so many folks using my work (of the roughly 37k views this year, up about 10k from last year) over 2k each were from the SoT Masterpost and the book 2 remix).
  • Finish fleshing out the RHoD Sandbox! I believe I've done as much work on this campaign as I'm going to, and a lot of folks seem to be using it! Over 3k views on the Masterpost alone! I'm really happy with all the work I've done on this, and overjoyed by how many people are using it.
  • Start planning what's next! I have been having a blast running other systems. Currently running the Mausritter module Tiny Tables for my SoT group (which will soon be followed by a Draw Steel! adventure), and a game in my own system for my RHoD group (specifically the one I started outlining here, though I'm realizing that most of my posts about it stayed in drafts).
  • Finish my RPG! It's done, and it's been a blast to play and run over the past several months. I'm still tinkering with things, because of course I am, but it's in a really good place.

23 posts in total this year - in addition to the goals above, I wrote an essay about player choice that I'm quite proud of, wrote a prelude one-shot to Rusthenge, and started a series on Scenario Structures. I am proud of everything I wrote this year - but it's definitely worth noting that my older posts saw more use. I think the more I move away from Pathfinder, the less useful these posts are to other people. Which is okay! I've already done a lot more with this blog than I set out to, and that work isn't going anywhere.

Goals for 2026

I am definitely feeling myself shifting away from Pathfinder 2e, which was the original premise/impetus for this blog. It's still a great system, but as I talked about in the post about my own system, I am finding myself wanting less character builds and more character discovery and development; less combat-focused adventures, favoring combat as war over sport (while still ideally making fighting fun); less options and rules to keep track of. That leaves this blog in an interesting place!

So, here are my RPG goals for this year - I imagine I'll post some or all of it on the blog, but that won't be my main focus:

  • GM Tools for Shadowbreaker. The core rules don't contain much in the way of GM advice, NPC stat blocks, specific Feats/Perks, or other things that GMs would need to run the game! A friend of mine is running a one-shot, so I started putting together some resources, and I'm hoping to flesh this out more completely and post it.
  • Write Up The Well of Souls, the campaign I'm running for (mostly) the old RHoD group. At this point it's fairly far along, but I'll probably wait at this point until it's more or less finished and post it as one document.
  • Write some shorter adventures! I love adventure writing, and in addition to my Pathfinder work I've also published adventures for other systems - I think it would be neat to write up some shorter things that showcase some of the style I'm going for with Shadowbreaker.
  • Try out more systems! I'm having fun playing other games, and would like to continue doing that, especially more rules-light/OSR games. If my longterm group sticks to one of them, maybe I'll write more about that! (Or if they decide to go back to PF2 I may write more there as well.)

I'm not sure how much I'll be posting here, but I'm pretty excited personally. The world is dark right now but in terms of RPG stuff at least, I'm feeling pretty good, and I hope you are too.

xoxo, societygirl
